History

In February 1984 Jennings R. Hood and several family members organized Team Mates Trusses, Inc. The start-up company began operations in April with 3 full-time and 3 part-time employees. With hard work, ingenuity, and skill the young firm flourished attaining sales of 1.5 million by the end of 1987.  In early 1989 family members decided to sell the business to pursue other interests.

On November 1, 1989 Jennings R. Hood and James H. Broach bought the business and changed the business to Team Mates of Charleston, Inc. With fresh leadership and new purpose, the company entered a period of sustained growth. Looking for expansion opportunities, on November 1, 1991 the owners acquired Truss Systems Inc. in Easley, S.C. The recession of 1992 stunned sales and sped the process of streamlining administrative operations. Team Mates of Charleston, Inc. and Easley Truss Systems, Inc. were merged into Truss Systems of South Carolina, Inc. All administrative and engineering functions were consolidated at the home office in Moncks Corner, S.C. These organizational changes positioned the company for a quick response as the economy recovered. As the economy expanded, Truss Systems capitalized on the opportunity, growing sales and market share.

Sensing a change in the market, the decision to expand into turn-key framing was implemented in 2000. To start the process of creating a new brand the name was changed to Atlantic Building Components and Services. The turn-key framing operation struggled, until James H. Broach, Jr., P.E. arrived in June of 2001. A Citadel graduate and professional engineer, he quickly reorganized the turn-key framing division and guided its growth. Focusing on commercial projects and high end custom homes, the turn-key framing division soon became a significant profit center. With the next generation of leadership in place, the decision to expand our service offerings to include structural engineering and residential home design was implemented. In November 2002, Atlantic Design Group, LLC was organized. Matthew G. Wilks, P.E., a Clemson University graduate, was named director and quickly lead the start-up engineering and design firm to provide structural engineering and resdential plan design for high volume builders and custom homes.

In November 2004 with the turn-key framing division and design group expanding, the decision to separate the turn-key framing division into a separate company with its own management team was implemented. Atlantic Construction Services was organized with John M. Brooks, a skilled framing contractor, as V.P. of Estimating and Business Development. With new dedicated leadership in place, Atlantic Construction Services has become the leading provider of turn-key framing services in South Carolina.
